Nothing better for a kid to learn Geography than to have big maps. These kids now have maps to study, to find themselves in the globe, to learn how to be better citizens!

Endless rain causing delays
It's been quite a while since our last post, but we finally have good news. Our last items of the project are finally being installed: the beautiful rocket and the little house (that came with a weird roof). Causes of delay were: the provider told us the execution was not so easy; when he finally delivered the items, we had to hire a machine to lift the items over the new fence, that was built due to safety reasons. And the rain... We had to wait for the rain to give us a break and allow us to execute this "operation". Anyway, we can finally show everybody the pictures of the new playground toys. As can be seen in the pictures, there is still a slide part to be fixed which is by the brick wall (also new as the old one was substituted).
This picture shows the items outside the new fence.
This one shows the playground with the slider that is still to be fixed.
This one shows the rocket in place.
As soon as the new playground is ready for use, we plan to post pictures of the kids having lots of fun with these toys!

Cotton candy for everybody!
Some may think that the last item for a school should be a cotton candy machine. The thing is that these kids deserve to celebrate special occasions: Independence Day, Easter, Christmas, graduation. Yes, they sure do deserve to fill their often bitter lives with some sugar. And cotton candy definitelly helps filling this need. The school used to spend money renting such item ocasionally. Not any more! Thanks to HeSpace Children's Foundation, our celebrations will cost a bit less, and our money will be kept for other educational needs. We will be posting pictures as other items arrive.

Drums on their way
Today we received the confirmation of the seller that the drums are on their way to the school. Practically all the items were ordered, and the project team is expecting the items for this month. As soon as they start arriving, we will be posting news and pictures here.

First Acquisitions of our Project
We are happy to let everybody know that we ordered all of the items of our project, and the first of them is already with us: the mini mattresses covers fabric. We will be publishing pictures as items arrive. Most of them had to be ordered from out of Brasília because of the better prices we got, mostly from São Paulo.
Eumetsat Better World Club Results
As posted previously, we used the funds raised at the Eumetsat book fair to pay for the graduation suits. We also used the money to paint the kitchen and dining room walls. They were recently refurbished but there was no money left for painting. We also bought non-slip mats for the kitchen floor. Many thanks to our Better World Cup friends, this year will certainly be better because of your kind help!

Graduation day
Graduation day was perfect thanks to the Eumetsat Better World Cup donation, that made it possible to buy the kids suits. The rest of the money is being used to do some painting on walls next to the kitchen.
As for the project money, it was only released by the bank last monday, and the project team went shopping. Hope to have good news next week!

Book fair to help fund raising
Last week our friend Carolina Loddo organised the annual book fair at Eumetsat to raise funds for our 2013 project. The event raised over EUR 1,200! Thank you, Eumetsat folks! We will use this money to improve the school's library. HESpace has sent us the funds, and so did Carolina, and we are now waiting for the long long bureaucratic banking procedures to start the execution phase of the project.

Project launch 3, 2, 1, 0!
Last week we received project approval from HESpace. We already have a bank account, with just a little bureaucracy for signing papers will make it ready to be used by next week. And the school director already ordered the new playground toys: the mini house and the rocket. We can say that our mission has launched and we hope it will successfully reach its goal!

This is the first post of our new blog. If you want to catch up with our history, just check the original blog, projecthespacebrazil2012 . This year we intend to include two new "toys"in the playground, one of which is a big rocket, represented on the image of the blog's wallpaper. We are planning to send the adaptations to the original project by 10/23. The project had to go through changes because our school received support from a Brazilian bank for funds for equipment that were part of our original plan. Since the playground still needs equipment, we are planning to provide this by HESpace.

Remodelled playground: always improving
Last weekend we paid another visit to our dear school. We held a little campaign with our friends from Banco Central do Brasil, to raise funds to fix the playground, which was exposing the kids to some risk of accidents.
We also share some improvements that had to be done, and the recent campaign helped us pay this other work: the front wall was unstable and had to be put down and rebuilt and the electric wiring that provides energy to the school was changed.
Our plans forr this year include the provision of some equipment so that the school can offer better services. These include the couchs used by the younger kids to take their naps, and improve the area of the library with adequate books and audiovisual equipment.

And the semester begins with a new classroom
Now we can say that our project is a success! The kids are already using the new room, as shown in the pictures. Thank you all for the great job!

Construction update February 11
Everything is practically finished for the beginning of classes this year, scheduled for the 25th. The towels and paper hangs were fixed, all the rooms and toilets have lighting and the classroom has two ventilators to refresh the environment. The windows were painted on bright blue, bringing some happiness around. The constructor, Mr Iraci, who shows the shower functioning, decided to go after more donations and painted the ceiling of the old varanda on white, is building an improvised library and painted the new classroom in two colors. Just to remind: this project built a new room to serve as nursery for the youger kids, giving space in the old one (now very colorful) to the fourth graders.
lavatories (to come a donation of a water drinking fountain, already ordered)
The ceiling received a white paint. Check the new drainage for the roof.
The kids' bathroom ready for use
Mr Iraci, the man in charge, donates his spare time for this construction, shows the shower functioning. Note that we are in our carnaval holliday, and he spends all his minutes on site.
Our room! Blue windows, new vents, new lighting!
The old room from where the nursery is moving, will house the fourth grade. It is very colorful!
A refurbished area for the school admin.
Our improvised library.
The books that will be arranged in the new area.
General overview from the outside.
Drains to collect rain water
Blue windows!
Toilet's ceiling and blue window
Toilet set to be used.
Now some extras: a campaign headed by two central bank's colleagues allowed them to achieve the school material for the year! Today we went to the kids' shelter and distributed the backpacks filled with bright new school stuff. Check their faces!
